Blogging Local Food

Cool Cabbage!

781 days ago by Kristen

In all my growing of food, and talking about the growing of food, I can sometimes get bogged down in all the work and practical part of it all. I concentrate too much on growing as much as I can, and then either eating or processing as much as possible.

Now that I’ve been doing it a couple years, I can sometimes I forget that one of the best parts of growing your own food is that you can grow cool plants you would never find at the grocery store. Check out my cone cabbage! I ordered the seed from an Italian seed catalogue, and I have several cones now in the garden, ready to be turned to sauerkraut (more on that later….)

An urban gardener has to be careful about space considerations, but anything that makes me laugh gets a spot at least once. Stay tuned for the purple cauliflower!
