I swung by Stadium Thriftway the other day to pick up some milk and a couple other essentials between meetings — and I just about did a double-take when I went by the dairy case. There was milk (duh) — in glass bottles! (No way!) I kinda had to stare for a moment to make sure it was real, and I probably looked weird taking this camera phone photo of the dairy case … but who cares! There it was! Milk in bottles! LOCAL milk in bottles! I haven’t seen that since I was a kid. Yes, I know there used to be a Tacoma local farm that bottled milk in glass bottles … but I only found out about it when it was about to shut down. And I don’t think that was in a grocery store! I was beginning to think that local, glass-bottled milk was to be but a memory. But there it was …
Apparently Golden Glen Creamery of Bow, Washington, is selling fresh local milk in glass bottles right here in T-town’s Stadium Thriftway. Just $3.79 for the half-gallon, plus a $2 bottle deposit. So not cheap … but I bet it’s yummy …
Apparently the creamery also makes cheddar, gouda, mozzerella, cheese curds and all sorts of yummy stuff. Not sure if those can be found at Stadium. In fact, looking at the creamery’s website, they don’t even mention Tacoma as a store site … so perhaps it’s new? Hmmm … I might have to go back and get some … make sure they keep Tacoma on their list. And perhaps I should ask for some local cheese …
I like cheese …
