We did it! We’ve been getting organic fruit and vegetables delivered to our doorstep for awhile, but we’ve been lamenting that often what shows up on our doorstep is from Southern California, Mexico, or Chile. So we decided it’s time to try something new. Or at least a new service.
A few months back we heard about Terra Organics, a produce delivery service now based out of East Tacoma and run by locals, Kim and Dan Hulse, and Terra Organics actually offers a Northwest-only produce box option for just $25 a week. I shouldn’t be surprised, Kim Hulse used to work for Terry’s Berries.
I will admit, I’ve been pretty spoiled by my now previous delivery service. We’ve been with them for several years and watched them get smoother service, a spiffy website, offer more delivery options including meat, bread, toiletries, and other organic and natural goods. But I think they just got too “big” for us, a fact confirmed recently when they were sold to a Canadian company and the brand shifted. A good brand, but given the option to shift to a local and locally focused company became very attractive.
Terra Organics is still a relatively new service, and the Web site and online amenities are pretty basic, but I have a feeling they too will improve over time. And when it comes to supporting good people, a local business, and increasing my family’s consumption of local, seasonal food — a slick website is the least of my concerns.
We’re excited! Our first delivery is next week, and I’ll be posting pictures of the goods, and maybe even recipes and pictures for some of the stuff we cook up with this good stuff.
