I’m not sure if today is a good day to begin blogging about local food. Our lovely and abundant winter garden is frozen solid. All we can do now is pray that the kale makes it through and we have greens to eat until Spring comes.
Luckily I thought to harvest a good amount of veggies before the cold came through. We’re trying to use them all up before we head off for Christmas vacation on Friday.
Here’s a brief look at what we’re having:
Tonight:
- Black bean soup w/local onions, garlic, peppers
and the last of our inside-ripened tomatoes. - Kohlrabi and radishes (rescued from the frost)
- Flatbread topped w/the rendered fat from some
of Cheryl the Pig lady’s peppered bacon – tasty.
Tomorrow:
- Lamb ribs (also from Cheryl)
- Mashed potatoes and parsnips
- Roasted beets
- Apples (gleaned from the neighbors)
